The Red Party: Prophetic mutations through temporal unrest

Happy New Year from the Red gang. I Just wanted to take a breath and sum up all that was and look into the very near future of what will be in regards to our lil club here in NYC.
Since the beginning I wanted to start a party devoted only to Goth music, I thought it was time that NYC had what other big cities had and that was a night devoted strictly to the sounds of Goth & Deathrock.

We have been blessed with the undying support of the NYC dark scene from day 1. We do not take it for granted, but rather use it as a springboard to do bigger and better things.
From the first few years at our most beloved Orchard to the very accommodating  Aces & Eights onto Mug Lounge. We have always been amazed at the number of people who come out to play with us. We have always tried to create a place free of ego and drama. Just Drink Dance and Support a small but growing scene in our city.

January brings a new time and it will be our last party at Mug Lounge, so please come support us as we shed our skin one more time and try on something a little bit bigger.  In February we have a full on club to fuck around with. But do not fear it is still The Red Party and with that comes no compromise in the music.  I am very proud of this party and wouldn't want to screw around with a good thing!
We Do Only Goth.  Again A Big Thanks to all who come out and lend us their energy and spirit 2011 is gonna be fun. So tease your hair and dress in your best black and reds Doom Kittens!

A trick of wrists

This my weary gait shall we shuffle through
standing stagger driven  and wrecked clear
much is needed to make this work
servant or sacrifice to this end I must twist
to what wonder wretched speak, then speak

waxen and held precious a form uniformed
starved for real food and divinity
I will refuse to cast a shadow here
No more art for we are all artists now
No more God for we are all Gods now
Zenith high a Tower stands

Tinder be the thrones of old
So child bow your head and humbly blind thyself
then rise proud fool and praise the still womb
If it burns then let us sing of its ash
And we the plastic scions of Babel to this we reel

The shoulder broken and atlas dosed
Sifting through the blood of nighttime follies
to many cigarettes bring the silence that whiskey can only comprehend
So we can sink and still say we swam, for the glory of nothing
we will cast nothing into the world, yet we shall cast it all
explain for what matters most matter rots

Without kindness we sing of nothing but sound
we do not breath nor allow our self the fear of self
Zero breeds zero from the first kiss to the scalpel prime
A tower to high topples wholly and let its bones be a monument to our new age
spread wide we will all pay for the same transgressions as the first

Joy now and everyone is an artist
Joy now we are all Abortionist
And with eyes blackened by the whole
nerves like tinsel glass and a frame wrecked by humanity
let us ascend victorious on wings of invisible worth

So crash and debris obvious yet still
with tactile and fine words, what greater erections do we aspire
Grand napalm skies dried bitter to the cusp of ego
nothing sifted clean
all is mirror bleached and we are all Human now

Vomit out the life only lived inside
En masse to no mass, A temple to self sustaining guile
We will be joined at the wrist fastened by snakes
pervert our own and leave a depth so malign
focus now wanton and seized

As our ancestors sit writhing and apoplectic
We shall show no care or dwell in a state of grace
Yours will be a garden of roses, lest to outsiders a nest of wasps
Burden, no burden a lift of self to know self
Slender is the hammer until it is met.

Good Bye You Bastard!

The Bank was the most important club of my waning youth. I mean there were others don't get me wrong. There was Limelight and there was The Building. But The Bank fit me like a glove and that glove was leather and it was tight. It was at the right time and the right place. LES and proud.

I Never got to DJ at the Bank and that was lucky for me (and probably those who attended as well). Instead I got to experience the Realm or Exedor first hand.
Me and my crew would stumble in around 1am after drinking down the bar across the street (RIP Spiral) and live up the remaining hours getting even more viking like chugging down drinks by The Blue Medusa Jean and the evil bastard Gerard while dancing to The Sisters, The Cure, Depeche or yes even Fictional. Come to think of it I have heard alot of songs for the first time at The Bank. Waking up many times with that dread of 'What the hell did I do last night' that would be followed by a devilish smile. Capricious youth indeed!

What alot of people don't know are all the really good people who made it happen. They weren't the stereotypical seedy promoters. They were nerds, outcasts and British. You had the top DJS like Ian Fford, Xian, Hellraver, Father Jeff, Patrick, Ash in the Crypt! Even some angry long hair named Cyn I believe made his debut there. I bring this up because the ingredients were so fine and precious. All the same it tasted great. All that Industrial, All That EBM (wtf was EBM) and Goth (lots and lots of Goth) oh and synthpop for all you girls :)

I met alot alot of friends there. Friends who still to this day believe it or not still want to be friends with me for some reason. Also a little know factoid - I met Mandana there 12 years ago!!! So its safe to say that the bank gave and gave.

All good things come to an end, and that's fine. It allows new people room to make their own beginnings on their own turf. And that's the way it should be. So the Bank got sold, it got turned into a hip-hop club, and when that inevitably failed even a strip club. But in its near demolished heart it was made for us and us alone.

The Proof was with 2 very special and yes I will even say it 'magical' nights. These 2 reunions proved that I was not the only one with blurry fond memories. I have seen friends who moved states away come back because they were compelled. Lightning in a bottle kittens. But I never saw The Bank as something that ever went fully away. Albion(Where I stumble in) which started at The Bank, moved to Rebel and enjoyed even greater success and is a cause for even further woolgrazing and praise.

Sunday November 21st. I will with all humility be spinning some music at the final ever Bank party. The Building is being torn down, but not its memories those cant be killed. (as much as I wish some could). I really cant put emphasis on this matter. For what little scene we have here in the Great State of New York, We threw some pretty spectacular shindigs. This Party is going to be one of them.

Mad Love and Praise go to all whoever worked at The Bank, you serviced us all so well

Halloween and All The Trimmings

Halloween will always place me back into my childhood. I recall racing home from School and getting my Boba Fett vinyl costume on at light speeds and running outside to meet my friends on the corner. As I got older it was less about the candy and more about the shaving cream and eggs. Running around in a cold sweat ducking roving bands of fellow n'er do wells. Coming home and being forced to undress in the hallway so as not to track in the mess. As I got a little older it was all about house parties and drinks and daring misadventures. Girls in sexy costumes and coming home with a belly full of flat beer and pillaged bottles of whatever liqueur mixed with kit kats and now and laters. But even though the mechanics of the party changed the soul remained pure and intact. Halloween was and is always that time of innocence and make believe. Now older still, I jump with excitement every time the doorbell rings so I can fill out all those little trick or treat bags with mega candy and look back and see it all over again.

Things to do this Halloween
Shop for A Great Costume
Carve A Really Big Jack O Lantern
Watch a ton of Horror films
Visit One Cemetary
Read a Good Horror Novel
Make Carmel Apples

Here are a few parties that I helped arrange and will be spinning at.

Mera Luna De-Briefing

Mandana and I had an amazing time. This was the best atteneded Mera Luna to date. The crowd as always was a ball of drunkend tribal energy. This was our third Mera Luna, I cant say its my favorite because I feel guilty saying it as the other 2 were so very good to me. Lets just say its in the top 3. We were very fortunate to be with an amazing group of friends, who just know how to have a great time. Mad drinks were flowing from Morning to Morning. Food was meaty gemanic goodness. Did some good shopping, as customary with my European jonts. I picked up some good new music for Underworld & Red Party! Here is a brief Rundown on the artists That I was fortunate enough to catch, which was alot this year.
Here is a mad quick rundown ( I am at work after al) I will add photos as soon as we import them.

Saturday
14:45-15:25 - LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE
Main Stage
One of the bands I was looking foward to seeing, not their best performance. They were still good but didnt have the 'Zaz' as before. Still a solid showing. A Good band to start off the festival

15:25-16:05 - FAITH AND THE MUSE
Hanger
I knew they would be amazing, its a given with them. Their new album (imo) is their best yet. Live they are on fire. Only damn problem they were given a small timeslot. I think they should have gone on later, more towards the end of the night.

16:30-17:10 - BRENDAN PERRY
Hanger
Directly next was the legendary Brenden Perry. His voice is a calming storm. One of the highlighs of the fesival was middle way through his set he does 'Song to the Siren' . It nearly killed me. So amazing. Yes he played plenty of DCD as well.

18:05-19:05 - LAIBACH
Main stage
I was disappointed, we all were. Just so Boring

19:30-20:30 - NITZER EBB
Main Stage
Yes Yes and Yes. Old school industrial music gods. They were damn solid. The crowd really got into them. Next time though please please less jazz hands.

21:00-22:15 - UNHEILIG
Main Stage
The biggest thing in Germany right now. He is either Loved or written off as cheese. I saw them at Mera Luna 4 Years ago and even then you could tell their following was rabid. A few of my friends are HUGE fans so, we went up front and we got all cheesy. suffice to say He (they) were pretty good - Just not my thing.

22:45-00:00 - THE SISTERS OF MERCY
Headline - Main stage
Andrew Please Stop - We all walked away. Nuff Said (FATM deserved this spot)

Sunday

12:20-12:55 - PUNISH YOURSELF
Main Stage
Never heard them before. Awesome Mad Fun except for the overly gay dancer in chaps with the twirlers. Liked the body paint though :)

12:55-13:30 - COLONY 5
Hanger
Great Show, Very Dancey and Very tight. Great Video display. Reminded me of a new(ish) Nitzer Ebb.

13:55-14:30 - CELINE AND NITE WRECKAGE
Hanger
Singers voice reminded my of Poly Styrene from Xray Spex. Think 70's punk with keyboards. Interesting.

14:15-14:55 - ZERAPHINE
Mainstage
I love them more and more. I have seen them in concert a few times and always very good. I recommend them.

16:30-17:20 - THE 69 EYES
Main Stage
I know I know. I expected cheese and there was. But seriously they blew up that stage. Thge best performance of theirs I have yet to see. I was mega-suprised to see them in such good form. Really Really fun.

17:20-18:15 - FEINDFLUG
Hanger
Love songs for Nazis

18:45-19:45 - SKINNY PUPPY
Hanger
Its the Puppy! Saw the same show in NYC. That kind of kills the momentum. Still amazing it is the Puppy after all. Seemed a lil phoned in.

20:15-21:15 - COMBICHRIST
Hanger - Headliner
Holy Fuck, Wow. They Deserve any success they get. Andy was non-stop. The crowd was out of control. New Album sounds great live. Cant say enough goodthings about their performance!

20:45-22:00 - PLACEBO
Mainstage - Headliner
Feh, kind of boring and uninspired. But not horrible.
So for what its worth here are the stand out performancers in my humble opinion

Combichrist
Faith and the Muse
The 69 Eyes
Zeraphine
Brendan Perry

Monday

Berlin
Dunker Club
Guests: William Faith, DJ Thomas Thyssen

I have been coming to this club for four years now. It is what I always wished a Goth Club could be like here in NYC (ahem Red Party). The indoor/Outdoor decor is just right. The music was amazing ( I think they put in a new sound system). I can not stress, how this party is inspiring and it doesnt help that the Beer is cheap and they make a slamming Mojito. Nothing about this night sucked save it was the most packed I have seen it and very hot. We only stayed til 5am we had a flight to catch.

A Change in Scenery

Well I saw this coming, so though I am not surprised, I am really sad. The reason why we are moving Red Party is of no persons fault save for the corrupt Lower East Side community board which is trying to drive out all the bars/clubs out of the neighborhood. Do they disgust me, yes of course. Do I want them to die of course not.

What I have not been telling everyone is that with every Red Party, I treated it like the last, because It was always there in front of us. My poor friends at the Orchard have been fighting the good fight, but that takes money, a lot of it. So Monday Raime and I spoke and came to the conclusion a very sad one. The Red Party at Orchard is done. This Party from the beginning was brilliant. That's not a pat on my back but to everyone who came out to support The Goth scene especially at a time when Synth-pop and EBM ruled the land. Our crowd is such a great and brilliant one. This party is special not in little bus to school special but as in a rare piece of earth that radiates a special blend of Happy - Special. IS this the end Uh uh Nope Not even close. Read on you Bastard Read on!

So I battled with myself whether or not to keep the name Red Party when we MOVE. I have refused outright in the past to use the name when Orchard was closed the first time. This time I think I will keep it. Which brings me to some very great news.

We have gotten offers already, We got some really cool offers. Now its a matter of going Large or keeping it at the size it is now. Either way we will be back very shortly.

So We will be back in a month maybe two. As I have stated in the past. We do not do this for money. Never have and never will. Some People play golf on the weekends or do blow off a strippers tits. Me I like to throw Great parties where my friends can come and play and feel secluded and safe from the outside world. We do this for the culture and the music that has become a very special part of us all . So please lend us your support and spread the word.

So on behalf of
DJs
Jarek
Holikarus
Dirge
&
Templar (me)

We will be seeing you very soon. So for now Auf widersehen!

Epimanes

Right the six fingered thief
on fours as if they were two
an empty house bleeds promise
worshiped from the inside
A thousand stings across the always opened wound
For Hell's sweetest symphony swings

The Nightingale choking on its rose
no sacrifice too big
for every hole a microphone
for every babe a vacuum
the long fanged Matron and we all find zero
onward human onward

On to every last twitch and jerk
with no sympathy or reveal
promise penance later to late
as all shines is truth
Your greatest escape is in holding
Prey for prayer
sits cross legged staring into a mirror
How are you doing here

Hells silver swoon and foreign grace
What Jesus
venereal retrograde
houses illicit product
Cancerous Capricorns seduced by fear and pardoned by ghosts
seizures divided into dulled eyes
march like you mean it

Sing out loud Megiddo
Dirt versus Soil
Reality versus Real
for faces never stopping
spraying static excuses molded into the skin of approval
masturbate your inner child
you are not so forgiven

God does not want you to believe
This is where no soul can tread
as elusive as true self
yours would be better served mute
Wealthy and honored by the pitted and contemptuous
What can you see through the human cataract
All beauty shall be reconstituted for the sake of you

Alien to temperance modesty and permanence
grasping half heartily at faint whispers
once so innocent and ready
almost there now switch the channel please
moist and ripe rape and art
louder and vague will be the twin heralds
Gog and Magog

Sing out loud Megiddo
and every word you speak
drunk on stones and jagged rocks
what heroes are found within
let us power a world with engines made of spleen
in flight by blind design
now every ghost will take shape
and know your name
